Current research are as follows:

  1. We are exploring the possibility of using miRNAs to control lepidopteran pests. Our study results show that miRNAs can regulate viral infection cycles and increase susceptibility of lepidopteran pests such as cotton bollworms. This finding indicates that miRNAs can potentially replace traditional pesticide control methods for overcoming existing resistance issues and for improving agricultural environments.
  2. We are seeking a pharmaceutical approach to protect honeybee from the immune and neurological damages caused by pathogens. Our lab discovered that expression levels of genes associated to immunity, learning and memory were significantly increased following treating with histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi). Such transcriptional modulation by HDACi treatment also facilitated bee recovering from the cellular damages caused by pathogenic infection. We are currently assessing to apply our findings to the beekeeping industry.
